Egypt in 5 Days
Five days is enough for a focused Cairo and Luxor first trip. It is not enough for Cairo, Luxor, Aswan, Abu Simbel, and the Red Sea without turning travel days into pretend sightseeing.

- Mobility: assumes uneven archaeological surfaces and vehicle transfers; access gaps remain review_pending.
- Arrival/departure: arrive CAI early or the previous evening; depart from Luxor (LXR) through Cairo or use a final buffer night if international tickets require CAI.
- Open-jaw assumption: multi-city/open-jaw flights are assumed where possible. If not, add a Cairo buffer night and drop one Luxor block.

Day 2
Giza and GEM
- Overnight base: Cairo.
- Realistic start: early west-side pickup.
- Priorities: Giza Plateau, lunch/rest, GEM only if official hours and timed entry fit.
- Transport: private driver or prearranged transport; avoid cross-city evening commitments.
- Rest window: late afternoon hotel break.
- End location: Cairo hotel with bags ready.
Day 3
Cairo to Luxor
- Overnight base: Luxor.
- Realistic start: domestic flight or verified rail; flight day is a travel day plus one light Luxor evening.
- Priorities: transfer safely, check in, Luxor Temple if arrival leaves an unforced evening.
- Door-to-door: hotel checkout, CAI transfer, domestic check-in/security, flight, LXR arrival, baggage, hotel transfer, and check-in usually consume 5 to 7 hours.
- Rest window: hotel check-in.
- End location: Luxor East Bank or hotel.
Day 4
Luxor West Bank
- Overnight base: Luxor.
- Realistic start: 06:30 to 07:30 in warm months.
- Priorities: Valley of the Kings, one second West Bank site, and shaded lunch/rest.
- Transport: driver/guide recommended for heat, ticketing sequence, and bank transfers.
- Rest window: midday hotel/pool/indoor pause.
- End location: Luxor hotel.
Day 5
Karnak and departure
- Overnight base: departure night not included; add one if flight timing is late or international.
- Realistic start: Karnak early, then checkout or stored bags.
- Priorities: Karnak and departure logistics only; Luxor Museum or extra tombs are optional if the flight is late.
- Transfer: LXR airport or rail station buffer; do not rely on same-day domestic flight to tight international departure.
- Rest window: lunch or hotel lobby before airport.
- End location: LXR or added Cairo buffer hotel.
Door to door
Transfer timing and connection risk
- Door-to-door timings include checkout, hotel-to-airport or station movement, security, waiting, boarding, baggage, arrival processing, onward transfer, hotel check-in, and a delay buffer. Flight, rail, or drive time alone is never treated as total travel time.
- Airport moves inside Egypt usually need a conservative 4 to 6 hour door-to-door block for domestic flights and longer when bags, terminals, late arrivals, children, mobility needs, or international connections are involved.
- Rail days use wide ranges because ENR schedules and foreigner booking remain a known source conflict; confirm the exact train and purchase path before relying on rail.
- The Cairo-Luxor move is treated as 5 to 7 hours door to door by flight, or a much longer rail block only after current ENR route and booking verification. Same-day domestic-to-international connections are avoided unless protected and generously buffered.

What changes the cost
- Cheaper: fewer hotel moves, rail or coach where currently verified for the traveler, public or app-based local transport when luggage and mobility allow, and fewer special-ticket attractions.
- Mid-range: domestic flights for the longest hops, private drivers on site-heavy days, a licensed guide where interpretation or pickup complexity matters, and comfortable but not luxury hotels.
- More expensive: open-jaw international flights, private transfers for each move, higher-category cruise or resort choices, private guiding every day, special tombs or timed-entry attractions, and flexible cancellation terms.
Alternatives
Faster, slower, heat, closure, and delay versions
- Faster version: remove the lowest-priority extension or compress one museum/heritage block only when it does not create a tight same-day long-distance connection.
- Slower version: add one night at the place with the heaviest transfer load or the highest heat exposure; do not add more cities first.
- Heat-aware version: exposed archaeological sites move to early morning, midday becomes hotel rest, shaded lunch, or indoor museum time, and evenings carry lighter walks or food.
- Closure or bad-weather version: substitute an indoor museum, local neighborhood meal, or rest block; Red Sea marine days become shore, pool, museum, or protected-condition alternatives.
- Delay version: cut the evening add-on or the second-priority stop first. Do not push every missed item into the next day if that would break checkout, train, flight, cruise, or airport timing.
Critical failure point
What would damage the plan most
- Single most damaging failure: missed or delayed Cairo-Luxor transfer.
- Recovery: keep Luxor Temple/Karnak and one West Bank morning; cut the optional second West Bank site or add a Luxor night.
